HAWAII ACTING CAMPS & CLASSES

Camps and classes for Hawaii kids, teens, and adults that have a special focus on acting in the theatre. Many of these Hawaii acting education programs also focus on singing, dancing and music. Most programs present a performance on the last day of classes. Most of the camps are day camps, but some are residential.

Ohana Arts
Mililani, HI

Ohana Arts, in partnership with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Theatre & Dance presents the Summer Festival and School. The program provides a unique opportunity for students ages 5-18 to study with world-class faculty and guest artists from around the country in music, dance, and drama through 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7 week full-time and part-time (afternoons) technique and musical theatre programs.

Hawaii Theatre Center

Hawaii Theatre Center’s arts education program can open the door to many of those who are often excluded from the benefits of arts participation. This is accomplished by greatly reducing cost barriers, making high-quality, arts opportunities more accessible to schools, and reaching out to underserved populations.

The Summer Intensive Theatre Camp is an annual 8-week Theatre Camp in June & July which hosts 50 students between the ages of 5 to 18 who are immersed in a rich theatrical experience each week. The camp is facilitated under the direction of the Pacific Academy of Performing Arts (PAPA). Students will participate in courses, workshops while learning the basics of performing on stage, vocal creations, public speaking, and choreography.

Diamond Head Theatre

When you perform, you create moments and memories. Diamond Head Theatre is an experiential learning center where people come together to sing, dance and act. Our classes are offered year-round and sell out quickly. Our commitment to small classes ensure our students get the one-on-one attention that they deserve.There are classes for adults as well as for children.

MUSICAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE: Students take center stage in the summer. Watch your wallflower blossom in our creative arts training camp as students, age 7 to 16, learn to act, sing and dance. They’ll learn from guest artists and each other. Productions foster team work, build confidence and cultivate imagination. The fun-filled experience culminates in a final performance on Diamond Head Theatre’s stage.

MUSICAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE 1: This seven-week, half-day summer program for students of all levels requires no previous acting, singing or dance experience. Children are introduced to the wonders of the performing arts in a safe, fun-filled environment.

MUSICAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE 2: MTE 2 is a two-week intensive, advanced program that follows the MTE 1 program. Designed for students, ages 7 to 16, to strengthen stage performance, talents and theatrical skills. MTE 1 is a prerequisite.

Hawai'i Children's Theatre

Inspiring youth through the study, performance, and appreciation of theater arts! Hawai’i Children’s Theatre serves more than 300 young people each year, some through the scholarship subsidy and work study programs. 10,000 children and families attend HCT performances each year.

Summer Stars: Ages: 5 - 15: Registration Based: Full-day summer programming for the theater lover in your family!

AM Program introduces the beginner thespian to the basics of acting, dance, singing and design.

PM Program introduces the intermediate or advanced student to participating in a full-scale production.

Fall Show: Ages: 9+: Audition Based: This is a full-scale broadway-style production where children can work with adults and professional theater staff to create a memorable experience!

After Dark: Ages: 15+: Audition Based: This program provides an opportunity for young actors, designers and stage technicians to explore more challenging and mature musical theater themes in a black-box setting.

Honolulu Theatre for Youth

Our summer programs focus on the creative development of our young participants. We desire to provide both a professional and engaging experience throughout the summer that ends with an entertaining performance and we are most dedicated to cultivating the individual artist in each of the young participants. We build their skill with and understanding of theatre by guiding them to create original scenes and plays. We want them to not only memorize dialogue, but create original characters and dialogue that truly makes the performance a reflection of their creativity.

Primary Players Spring Classes:
Participating in Primary Players inspires children to discover the creative fun of theatre. Through theatre games and dramatic exploration, the Primary Players develop comfort and confidence with presenting playful performances and build imaginative abilities.

When your child joins Primary Players, they become an integral piece to the creating and performance process! Attendance and promptness are important to your child’s learning experience. If you know your child can’t commit to all 10 sessions due to previous commitments, we ask that you check with us ahead of time or join us in the future for our Spring or Summer classes.

As public schools have faced continued cuts in funding arts education, Kahilu Theatre serves the largest number of children possible. Camp On Stage:
Students of all levels will explore elements of theater including vocalization, character development, music, movement, dance, and ensemble-building. Through theater exercises, students will build acting skills needed to create truthful characters. Each week will focus on a different theme and students will be working on short plays that will be performed for families each Friday evening.

Hawaii Performing Arts Festival

YOUNG SINGER: The Young Singer Program is an intensive study and performance opportunity designed for serious young artists who are interested in furthering their educational training under the guidance of some of the most well-respected industry professionals worldwide. Each year, a small cohort of singers is selected from a pool of applicants worldwide.

Young Singers will be 14 years of age through graduating high school seniors. Graduating high school seniors may be placed into either our Young Singer or Developing Singer Programs, based on the evaluation of their audition.

DEVELOPING SINGER: This is our main vocal program and is designed for the developing singer. Our developing singers are mainly singers currently attending college undergrad and grad programs, or are post college and still developing career level skills.

PROFESSIONAL FELLOW: The Margareta and Staffan Encrantz Professional Fellowship is intended for exceptional young artists who are career ready. Only highly competitive artists need apply.

Operatic applicants should have completed at least one recognized young artist program (i.e. Santa Fe Opera, Central City Opera, Opera Saratoga, Sarasota Opera, etc.), or be able to demonstrate that level of ability in audition and application materials.

Musical theatre applicants should have regional leading and supporting credits, understudy, and/or swing experience, or be able demonstrate that level of ability in audition and application materials.
