Open Spot Theatre
Detroit and Lansing, Michigan areas

A Theatre Program for People of All Abilities. Bringing accessibility to theatre with fun, creative, and therapeutic activities.

Our practices are always a good time! We involve singing, dancing, and acting into every session held, along with sign language interpretations. No matter the age, ability, or verbal skills, we like to get our students moving, exploring, and learning. Teaching them critical theatre knowledge like projecting, cheating, and stage directions, we value our curriculum as a professional grade theatre workshop. But under this learning, we sneak in life skills reinforced with each new theatre game: eye contact, memory improvement, taking turns, speaking clearly, etc. Theatre is an excellent medium to learn/review social skills with dignity. Plus, it’s fun!

Theatre is for everybody! Which means our performances showcase everyone’s talents and sets up an environment for success. There is always an instructor narrating on stage, so if anyone needs a prompt: we’ve got you covered!

Performances have a singing, acting, and dancing component. If your child/student is preferential to one, no worries, it’ll be performed! If the actors are not mobile, again no worries. We creatively work in wheelchairs, etc. into each showcase.

Classes are led by trained instructors who are professionals in theatre, sign language, and/or special education.

Down River Youth Performing Arts Center
Trenton/Detroit, MI area

DYPAC is the abbreviation for Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center. A state-of-the-art performance center, focusing on youth, is our dream. It is our hope that through teamwork and determination this dream may be turned into a reality. This dream is based on the belief that there is a need for a quality facility in the Downriver area, and the fact that there is an abundance of talent in the youth of Downriver. The existence of a program focusing on youth will help the adult programs flourish and grow.

A theatre group has been created which is thought to be the beginning brick of this larger dream. The existence of a theatre group will allow the communities to see the talent existing and will allow funds to be accumulated to further this goal. The creation of this theatre group is in no manner designed to compete with any existing group. The goal is for our facility to be all inclusive.

We have a group of talented and dedicated individuals who have made a commitment to try and achieve this dream. We expect this journey to be a long and probably difficult one, but we also expect much fun and friendship.

Our summer program is six weeks, three days per week. A choice of 5 classes per 45minute segment: Dance, Voice, Theatre, Musical Theatre and Art! Take one class or stay all day!
