CenterPoint Legacy Theatre
Centerville, UT area
YOU BELONG AT CENTERPOINT ACADEMY
That’s the CenterPoint Academy motto. “You Belong Here!”
And nobody knows that better than the incredible people, ages 3-18, that we train in performing arts, including musical theatre, tap & jazz, and voice.
What we really teach them, however, is how to be the awesomest version of themselves. While the musical theatre, dance, and voice training we offer is top-notch, provided by the best local working artists, the end result for the vast majority of our students isn’t the Broadway stage. Instead, we use the arts to teach lessons that matter in any facet of life – confidence, discipline, leadership, self-esteem, teamwork, friendship, and creativity. Our students learn these universally relevant skills and become assets wherever they go – at school, at work, in the community, at church and at home.
On top of this, the Academy provides unique performance opportunities to these students on the CenterPoint Theatre stages, performing for more than 10,000 people per year, in over 100 performances of more than a dozen different shows.
AUDITIONED MUSICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION CLASSES

• Musical Theatre Production for Juniors (7TH-8TH GRADE)
• Musical Theatre Production for Elementary (3RD-6TH GRADE)v

MUSICAL THEATRE TRAINING
Our Musical Theatre training classes are designed as supplements to your participation in Musical Theatre Productions classes, or as stand-alone classes. Your involvement in these classes will help you level up in your knowledge, skills, confidence, and competence as a musical theatre performer.
Musical Theatre Auditioning (GRADES 7TH-12TH)
This is one we hear about all the time, and we’re so excited to offer it. Want to get better at auditioning? This is for you! Nail every audition with the best training around in our Auditions class! This class will focus on learning and perfecting the skills needed to feel confident at a musical theater audition. We will cover everything; creating a resume, headshots, building your audition songbook, making an audition cut, performing your audition piece, nailing readings and monologues and everything in between. You’ll come out of this class prepared with everything you need to maximize your opportunities in your next audition, and with the skills to tackle all the auditions in your future.
Backstage! (Ages 14-18)
Backstage lets you get your hands on all areas of Musical Theatre by working on the actual Mainstage and Academy shows at CenterPoint Theatre, directly with the professional staff that make the shows happen!
You don’t need any experience at all to take the class. We’ll provide the instruction and experience at whatever level you bring, and you’ll end up being proficient in all the areas of theatre that make a show happen.
You’ll get a chance to work on set design and construction, lighting design, sound design, building props, sewing costumes, and creating awesome theater magic. Every week you will work on the backstage elements of CenterPoint’s Mainstage productions and CenterPoint Academy’s productions, getting real hands-on experience with working professionals. Safety equipment and supervision will always be provided and closed-toed shoes are always required.
Students from this class will be considered first for paid employment for technical staffing needs on Academy and Mainstage shows (must be 16 or older to apply) and will also gain the skills to be employed in other theaters.
Acting for The Stage (Ages 12-18)
A class where you can focus on acting for the stage. Acting and only acting. Designed to strengthen your acting chops for all your theatre endeavors – musical theatre, plays, and anything else. Acting is the one thing that pulls all of theater together. Singing, dancing, monologues, scenes, musicals, straight plays… All of it needs the basic skill of acting. In this class you’ll learn the best way to analyze and break down a script. You’ll learn the process of dissecting and creating a character. You’ll gain confidence and understanding in your acting abilities through working and performing monologues and scenes. You’ll develop the approach for acting that works best for you. This is the perfect class for anyone who wants to push their stage acting abilities to the next level.
Auditioned Shows
These shows will be audition-based, meaning that not everyone who auditions will be cast. Auditions for these shows are open to the general public, not just current Academy students. And while these are open to the general public, these shows are designed to supplement, but not replace, your weekly Musical Theatre classes. Casting decisions are at the sole discretion of each production team, and there’s no guarantee of being cast in any specific show. We expect there to be great turnout for these auditions, and it’s impossible to foresee what casts will look like. We recommend you see these as great opportunities, but not to plan your year around just these shows.
Dance for Musical Theatre
Our awesome dance offering with a musical-theatre focus provides the best training in the types of dance you’ll most frequently use in musicals, and we think you’ll love it! Classes will be taught in age groups that match our Musical Theatre Productions class ages. Students will focus on movement for musical theatre, improving your skills and making you a more rounded, more castable performer. Juniors and High School students have two options, based on ability level – Level 1 is for beginners, and Level 2 is for Intermediate/Advanced. Sign up for what you think best fits, and we’ll make sure your level is correct during the first couple weeks of class!
We can’t wait to play with you!

Students will gain confidence in their dance ability, their comfortability when doing a dance audition, as well as learn or review terms helpful for picking up dances quickly. Up With Kids Musical Theatre Academy
Various Locations in Utah
Up With Kids students are divided into three age groups to accommodate the varying stages of child development. All classes come together every spring for an annual recital.
UpSwings (pre school-1st grade)
UpBeats (2nd-4th grade)
Upper Class (5th grade-up)
Class Structure
Classes are divided into four areas of focus: Enrichment, Voice, Dance and Acting.
Class begins with vocal exercises, giving instruction in how to use muscles and body parts to develop the individual’s own very best singing and speaking voice.
The bulk of each class consists of acting exercises to encourage confidence and develop the following skills:
- Focus
- Characterization
- Improvisation
- Pantomime
- Motivation
- Facial expression
- Vocal intonationv
- Dialogue
- Monologue
- Audition techniques
The final portion of class is spent rehearsing for the spring recital. Rehearsal becomes very active as we teach basic concepts of movement and the different styles of dance that will be featured in the performance. We hope that through mastery of the basics, our students’ abilities to create their own artistic compositions will be enhanced and strengthened.
Live Performances
Productions are performed live to give our actors experience in overcoming stage fright and the opportunity to receive rewarding applause from an appreciative audience. Shows are also professionally videotaped and edited so that students can review their performance and make adjustments to their art.
Rehearsal Music and Scripts
Students can sing, dance, and practice their lines at home with scripts and music for each show. In fact, home practice is encouraged as it gives the important adults in our students’ lives an opportunity to get involved in the Up With Kids experience. Receiving support outside of class helps to grow our students’ confidence in their unique abilities. The cost of these supplies is covered by the annual materials fee.
